Hello Dana, thinking about and ‹listening› to your contribution, I find myself looking at it as a certain reaction to the call more than a closed up piece. I really want to publish it in the Journal. And I find myself giving back a reaction: I want to experiment with the format and publish our conversation as well.
As it is about understanding and communication.

Not to make it an ironic gesture of not showing that there is a lack of understanding. But

Voila?

Hey Mira,
I have no particular lay-out vision no…

Also, I prefer not to contextualize any further! I think it speaks to the topic at it’s necessary volume… even if that volume is turned way down (perhaps).

Voila!

Thanks,
Dana

Dear Dana, thanks a lot for your contribution!
Could you tell me a little more about how you imagine it to be published in the Journal? Or, if there is a certain way you imagine?
And could you give me some words about how you connect this statement about the way of working, of dealing with time structures in world and society and within yourself to the topic of barbarism?
I like your images, the way they connect to the text is like poetry. Still some hints here would be great.

Bests!

I do things last minute because I’m always too busy doing the thing that I’m doing. I therefore switch only when it’s absolutely necessary, and many of these things are determined by someone else taking responsibility for knowing what timing is ‹correct›. Time and clocks and schedules exist and I follow them because that is how the world understands how to make itself work without going to complete hell shit. I am getting into doing things on a schedule that I set because I’ve been reading about what falls in line with nature supposedly and I’d rather obey nature than a human who is just as clueless as I am. Maybe this is why I believe in intuition more than rational thought – it seems less molested by constipated socialization. Yeah of course my intuitive senses are not virginal, but they definitely feel less dirty and questionable.

Dear Dana Michel,

I saw your piece ‹Yellow Towel› in HAU Berlin last year and since then kept it in my mind. I am writing to you in behalf of the Online Journal reciprocal turn (http://reciprocalturn.com/) that I co-edit. The next issue is going to be called BARBARIANS WANTED and this is a call for a contribution.
I remembered your work and your clever way of dealing with stereotypes, the power of bodily manifestation and communication or non-communication with the audience, with ‹the other›. It made me laugh and shiver at the same time thinking about the interweaving strings of high culture, western humanity, ‹orientalism› and barbarity, terrorism, art and violence…that we as a Journal are interested in.

Please find some info attached.

Would you like to contribute and publish a video of the performance in the coming issue, along with some information about you and your way of working?
Or do you have any other ideas coming up?
Please let us know until the 12.02.16

We are a small emerging Journal that wants to connect artistic and theoretical thinking about art, based in Germany. Look through our website to see what we did the last two issues!

We are looking forward to hear from you!
All the best,
Mira

#two – not the frames, but the things | reciprocal turn
August 2015The immediate impact that the material presence of artworks causes leads to the following question: How does the materiality of a concrete art object impact the viewer, and how does it relate to the viewer and the art-frame? To take the material dimension that all peoples and things share…
